Lineage 2 Glossary
A reference for the terms you meet on Lineage 2 private servers. Each entry briefly explains what the term means and how it affects choosing a server and playing on it. Terms link to one another, and every entry lets you jump straight to matching servers.
- Chronicles
- Chronicles are the named versions of Lineage 2, each released as a major game update. The order is: Prelude, Chronicle 1–5, then Interlude, The Kamael, Hellbound, Gracia, Freya, High Five and, after that, the Goddess of Destruction branch. A chronicle sets the map, the class roster, the skills and the systems, so it defines how a server plays. When choosing a server, the chronicle is the first thing to look at. - Interlude
- Interlude is the sixth chronicle of Lineage 2, released in the West in 2007 (and in Korea in late 2006). It is the most popular chronicle on the private scene: balanced classes, a clear economy and a map familiar to most players. Many servers still launch on Interlude, so it has the widest choice of projects, guides and ready-made builds. Browse Interlude servers Related: Chronicles, Sub-class, Rates (x1, x50, x1000)
- High Five
- High Five is the last classic chronicle of Lineage 2 before the shift to Goddess of Destruction. It was released in the West in 2011 (and in Korea in late 2010). High Five expands the skill and item systems compared with Interlude while keeping the familiar style of play, so it appeals to players who want later, yet still "classic", content. - Classic
- Classic is a separate Lineage 2 branch, officially relaunched in the mid-2010s as a return to the slow, old-school levelling of the early chronicles but on an updated client. On private servers, Classic is valued for its unhurried character progression, the importance of group play and the weight of every level. It is not the same as the old chronicles: the map and some systems differ. Browse Classic servers Related: Chronicles, Essence
- Essence
- Essence is a streamlined version of Lineage 2, launched for the Western region in 2019. It is built for faster progress and solo play: simplified mechanics, auto-hunting and a shorter path to the endgame. Essence servers suit players who have little time for classic group levelling but still want to stay in the Lineage 2 universe. Browse Essence servers Related: Classic, Chronicles
- Rates (x1, x50, x1000)
- Rates are the multipliers for experience, drop, adena and spoil gain compared with the official game. A low-rate server (x1–x5) keeps the slow progression close to the original; a high-rate one (x50 and up) lets you reach the endgame in a matter of days. Rates are what players filter servers by most often, so they are among the first things listed in a description. Browse Rates (x1, x50, x1000) servers Related: Chronicles, PvP, PvE
- Sub-class
- A sub-class is an additional class a character gains on top of the main one after completing a special quest, usually at level 75 or above. The sub-class grants access to its skills and to unique sub-class skills that strengthen the character. Servers may ease the requirements for unlocking a sub-class or keep them original, so it is worth checking this in the server description. Related: Interlude, Olympiad
- Olympiad
- The Olympiad is a system of one-on-one and team duels whose results, each period, decide the heroes — holders of unique skills and status. The Olympiad is a key part of the Lineage 2 endgame and one of the main reasons to keep developing a character. On PvP servers, Olympiad results largely shape the balance of power among the strongest players. Browse Olympiad servers Related: PvP, Sub-class, Epic bosses
- PvP
- PvP (player versus player) is combat between players rather than against monsters. PvP-focused servers are built around duels, sieges, clan wars and mass battles, and they often adjust the rules to make such clashes frequent. If you are after competition with real opponents rather than quiet levelling, choose servers where PvP content comes first. Browse PvP servers Related: PvE, Olympiad, Sieges
- PvE
- PvE (player versus environment) is playing against the game world itself: monsters, raid bosses, epic bosses and dungeons rather than other players. PvE-focused servers emphasise cooperative content, character development and farming, with more forgiving death rules. Many servers combine PvE and PvP, but the label shows where the main focus lies. - Epic bosses
- Epic bosses are the strongest bosses in Lineage 2, the ones the endgame fight revolves around. The main ones are Antharas (the earth dragon), Valakas (the fire dragon), Baium and Queen Ant. They drop unique accessories that grant noticeable bonuses, so whole alliances fight over them. On private servers the schedule of their appearance and the rules for claiming them are often configured separately, which directly affects the endgame balance of power. Related: PvE, Clan hall, Sieges
- Sieges
- Sieges are mass clan battles for control of castles, held on a set schedule. The clan that holds a castle collects taxes from nearby towns, gains access to special functions and earns status in the server world. Sieges are one of the main PvP events in Lineage 2, the reason clans form alliances, so siege activity is a good sign of whether a server is alive. Browse Sieges servers Related: PvP, Clan hall, Olympiad
- Clan hall
- A clan hall is a room a clan takes ownership of and uses as a base: teleports, buffers, storage and other conveniences. Some clan halls are bought at auction, others are won through siege events. Owning a clan hall makes a clan's life easier, so it is one of the first goals for organised groups on a new server. Related: Sieges, Epic bosses
- Enchant
- Enchanting is the strengthening of weapons and armour with special scrolls, raising their stats. Past a certain level, enchanting becomes risky: a failure can destroy the item or lower its level. The maximum enchant level and the success rates are often configured separately on private servers, which noticeably affects the economy and the power of top players. Related: Rates (x1, x50, x1000), Adena
- Adena
- Adena is the main in-game currency of Lineage 2. It buys gear, consumables and services, and players use it to trade with one another. How fast adena is earned depends on the server rates and directly shapes its economy: too much inflow devalues the currency, too little slows progression. Balancing adena is therefore an important part of server tuning. Related: Rates (x1, x50, x1000), Enchant
- Freeshard
- Freeshard is a name that took hold in the Lineage 2 community for a private server running outside the official infrastructure. It is not a legal term: it simply reflects how the early scene grew around separate emulator builds — "shards", each run by its own team. The word is used as a synonym for "private server"; server descriptions usually say "private server". Related: Chronicles, Rates (x1, x50, x1000)
